Frequently asked questions
The main components of an air conditioning system are:
Condenser: This is located outside the building and releases the heat absorbed from inside. It typically includes a compressor, condenser coil, and a fan. These square units with a fan are commonly seen on the outside of many types of commercial buildings.
Indoor Unit: This contains the evaporator coil, blower fan, and the air vents that circulate the cooled air inside the space. It also includes the control system, such as a thermostat or remote control. These units are mounted close to the top of a wall, and come in a range of sizes to suit the designated room.
In the case of more integrated systems, like those found in new buildings or during major renovations, there may also be ductwork installed in walls and ceilings to distribute the air throughout the interior through vents.
If you already have central heating, then it might be more efficient to use it for heating your entire home during the winter. But air conditioning is capable of both heating and cooling. Plumberoo would be happy to discuss your options and the pros and cons of each.
It’s generally recommended to service your air conditioner once a year to keep it running efficiently. This annual service should be done by a professional to inspect and clean the system, check refrigerant levels, and ensure all components are functioning properly.
In addition to the yearly service, filters should be checked monthly and replaced if needed. Clogged or dirty filters can reduce airflow and efficiency. You can easily check the filters yourself, and they’re typically located within the indoor unit or near the air handler.
There is usually a route to installing air conditioning in most properties – for houses or bungalows where site access is straight forward, we can almost always find a solution.
With apartment buildings, there can be more challenges in regards to the rules of the lease and what is feasible, but it’s still common to see them retrofitted.
For all installation jobs Plumberoo conducts a site survey in order to make tailored recommendations.
